Large fire - Punta de Jandia

Some 60 caravans and motorhomes have been affected in the Punta de Jandía fire.

It is estimated that about 60 caravans and motorhomes have been affected in the fire of Punta de Jandía, in the municipality of Pájara in the south of Fuerteventura. The fire began minutes before 7:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, August 10, for unknown reasons, in a space usually used by hundreds of people for summer. In the place had installed about 150 vehicles and structures made with plates and wood as confirmed by different sources to Radio Sintonía.

 
A dense plume of black smoke could be seen several kilometers from Punta de Jadia while the fire spread rapidly with the danger to the nearest homes.

In the extinction works participated the Firefighters of Pájara, Civil Protection, Local Police and Civil Guard, being the same controlled about 21.00 hours. There is no need to regret personal injuries but considerable economic losses.

Members of the Judicial Police have traveled to the place of the event to initiate the investigation that clarifies that the aforementioned event occurred.

The Cabildo removes the remains of motorhomes burned after the fire in Punta de Jandía in 2022, through the Ministry of Works directed by Blas Acosta.



In total, around 350 tons of debris and materials were removed from the fifty motorhomes that were affected by the fire that occurred in the parking area of Punta de Jandía on August 10, 2022.

The fire caused material damage, but fortunately not personal damage. It is estimated that around 40 percent of the caravans parked in the area were affected by the flames, leaving almost fifty of them totally damaged.

Adverse Weather conditions, such as strong wind, together with the presence of flammable elements such as gas cylinders, mattresses and fiber materials that make up the caravans, contributed to the rapid growth of the fire, which caused a rapid spread of the fire.
