  Caldereta to Airport New Road
Posted by: Captain Sensible - 29-03-2019, 09:33 AM - Forum: Cars, cabs & roads - Replies (36)

The Canarian Government have announced that the tender for the new dual carriage between Caldereta and the airport will go out to tender in the next few weeks.
The road will cost approximately 100 million euros for the 17 km link.

My opinion - If the Corralejo to Caldereta road is anything to go by then it might be open in 2028!

All this cleaning up but one thing lacking
Posted by: Can the Man - 24-03-2019, 02:08 AM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (7)

I think it was Wednesday this week I was balking in Caleta from the roundabout I front of the bus station over towards Kobe steak house passing the side of the Broncemar. The was a guy in a high viz vest doing a great job of weeding and tidying up the plants along the roadside, however one thing *** me off, well actually two things related in one. The flower beds all have the pican negra and smokers insist in firing their cigarette butts into the flower beds making it dam near impossible for the guy tidying up the flower beds. I’ve seen this in many of the flower beds around Caleta. As a result we have flower beds with litter removed, weeds removed and plants trimmed but buds full of cigarette butts. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I Wish smokers would be more considerate where they dispose of their cigarette butts. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

  Lost Debit Card (SORTED)
Posted by: Bertie - 19-03-2019, 10:05 AM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (9)

Whilst out taking the dogs for a walk this morning found an in-date Banca March Debit card
lying in the middle of an unmade track just south north of Villaverde.  Name on the card is Paul
H*****.  Would he like to contact me via this forum?  I don't do Facebook so maybe some
kind soul could post this on a relevant page?
Bertie.

EDIT: North of Vilaverde instead of south. Sam.

What an oasis this place is! I find it easy to spend a good 1-2 hours wandering through and looking at everything and always end buying 1 or 2 or 3 …… plants.  Big Grin
Found several new/different things there today including a wisteria tree (blue flowers, not white) which I couldn't resist, and a wild poinsettia and, and!
The owners, Saskia and Paul,  have amazing knowledge about growing on the island and are always willing to share their knowledge. All their plants have been tested growing on the island before they will sell the variety and a lot are grown themselves from seed, from Australia, South Africa etc.

Find them on Facebook where there are loads of photos:

At this time of year I believe they are open 9am-6pm Weds - Sun.

  Portuguese Man o’ War

Stinging False Jellyfish Found on Fuerteventura Coastline

Recent storms have washed ashore the dreaded Portuguese Man o’ War or Physalia physalis from the Atlantic Ocean to the coastline of Fuerteventura.
Physalia Physalis, also known as ‘false jellyfish’, is an organism that produces very painful stings, so caution is recommended when swimming in the sea.
This organism is a marine hydrozoan of the family Physalidae often found in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. These have long tentacles that can deliver a painful sting, and this is strong enough to kill fish, but has only rarely been known to kill humans.

  Walk from Corralejo to Lajares
Posted by: fatherted - 11-03-2019, 08:21 PM - Forum: Things to do on the island - Replies (2)

Does anybody know where to start the trek from Corralejo over to Lajares? According to a couple of guides the route starts up the road by the Football stadium but there's a quarry with gates/fences and warning signs saying no entry so the other questions are:- (a) Do you ignore the warnings and walk through the site or (b) is there another track entrance somewhere else?

Brexit Meeting in Caleta de Fuste
Posted by: Captain Sensible - 09-03-2019, 03:21 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (14)

The British Consulate for Las Palmas will be at a meeting in Caleta de Fuste to talk about the effect of Brexit on UK nationals who live in Spain.
It's being held at 6pm on Thursday 14 March in the Cultural Center.

My personal view is that s/he won't know anymore than what we know already.
