  Suggestions for Puerto Rosario
Posted by: Archer - 28-01-2019, 02:54 PM - Forum: Bars & Restaurants - Replies (1)

I'd like to ask for recommendations of good restaurants in Puerto Rosario, preferably over towards Playa Chica/Puerto.

We always find we are scratching around for somewhere in the evening. El Perenquen and next door Zilou? are both closed in the evenings (when we are in town). The new one adjacent to Playa Chica, called Salitre didn't inspire - limited menu and no-one in when we found it open. Terraza Playa Chica is good, and on the high-price side.

Any other ideas? Else it's back in El Mirador, which we always find is a good fall-back option.

TIA

Beware - Electron sell secondhand stuff!
Posted by: Archer - 26-01-2019, 01:53 PM - Forum: Shops & Supermarkets - Replies (10)

Just had to return a DVD player because it was too noisey. After a difficult exchange in their Service Centre, I eventually got a credit note to put towards another better model. Turned out this 'new' one was a SECONDHAND return that they had just put back on the shelf! I didn't notice.
How do I know? Well, the tape across the box top was covering the previous opened bòx. Inside the remote control seal was broken, and the player had clearly been out of the box before. And, the on-screen setup had already been performed. Not happy, another drive back to PR.

We've bought loads of stuff from Electron, without a hitch, but you do realise how good (or bad) an organisation is when you get a problem. They do not give good service, and start out with the premise that they DO NOT DO EXCHANGES, and you have to fight for a result.
But where else can you buy electrical goods?

[align=justify]La Oliva, on January 23, 2019. The municipality of La Oliva continues to grow to offer leisure alternatives to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who choose the north of Fuerteventura to enjoy their vacations, and this was announced today by the mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, and the Councilor for Tourism, Sandra González. They were accompanied by the president of the Cabildo, Marcial Morales, Blas Acosta, tourism counselor, and Antonio Hormiga, president of the employer's association.

In the framework of Fitur, the great national fair of the sector, the City Council of La Oliva presented this morning its Calendar of Events of tourist interest for this 2019, a program that includes cultural, sporting, gastronomic and leisure Events for all types of public .

"Everyone recognizes our climate and our beaches among the best in Spain, but also the tourist demands more and more leisure alternatives, activities to spend their holidays in an active way, enjoying in nature, knowing the local culture, or enjoying our gastronomy, and it is in that line that the City Council has been working on, "said Isaí Blanco.

Sandra González explained that "from the area of Tourism we work to articulate a coherent and attractive program, with Events promoted from this council, but also those that drive other departments of the municipality or entities and clubs that co-organize some of the activities, especially competitions sports ".

In this way, the mayor and councilor advanced dates and details of Events that have already closed their date and poster, such as the XXXII International Kite Festival, one of the two most important in Europe of its kind, and "a promotional symbol of Fuerteventura and the municipality thanks to the unrepeatable images offered by hundreds of creations through the sky, "said Sandra González. The Kite Festival is held from November 7 to 10.

In the cultural sphere, October hosts two distinctive Events for the municipality, the International Blues Festival, and Cotilleando. The Festival of Blues is undoubtedly a reason to visit Corralejo on October 25 and 26 for lovers of the genre, while a cast of circus artists, also international, will meet in Cotilleando on the 12th and 13th in El Cotillo, a multidisciplinary festival that has been very strong in the cultural programming of the Island.

Sports tourism is another of the segments that has been experiencing a greater international boom. In this sense, two Events stand out in La Oliva for its ability to gather thousands of athletes who travel to the municipality with their companions to compete and enjoy physical activity in nature. The XI Alltours Half Marathon International Dunes of Fuerteventura will take place on November 3, 2019, and the VI Fuertebike, on September 7, 2019.

Finally, within the gastronomic field, recently has reappeared an initiative with a very interesting projection. The La Tapa Route has returned to La Oliva and celebrates its second edition at the island level, from April 4 to 13, 2019.

XII International Blues Festival

October 25 and 26, 2019

The International Blues Festival reaches its twelfth edition with the same objectives that it was born with, offering a unique event of its kind, with a clear vocation for outdoor promotion, and a remarkable ability to call among blues lovers. In addition to attractive concerts by the best international bands and artists, the festival offers activities and surprises every year, from workshops and master classes, to small concerts like the Blues on the street, or for example, the gastronomic fair Gastroblues held by first time in the last edition.

XXXII International Kite Festival

From November 7 to 10, 2019

The International Kite Festival exceeds thirty years of life as one of the two most important in Europe. From its beginnings in 1987 until today, it has become one of the most important tourist Events in Fuerteventura. Its tourist component is undeniable, both for its ability to produce beautiful images that travel the world, and for its power to call hundreds of comers from across the continent who move to the island to participate in the festival.

XI Alltours International Half Marathon Dunes of Fuerteventura

November 3, 2019

A unique race in Europe, for its route along a dune landscape such as the Natural Park of the Dunes of Corralejo, and for developing in a semi-desert climate, such as the majorero. The Alltours ½ International Marathon Dunas Fuerteventura has reached a decade of life, and returns on November 3 offering the same attractions with which it was born, a first level organization, spectacular tours along the sea and the dunes, and all the comforts of a destination eminently touristic as is the municipality of La Oliva.

VI Fuertebike

September 7, 2019

La Oliva hosts the largest mountain bike race held in the Canary Islands in a single municipality. Fuertebkie continues to grow in each new edition to consolidate itself as a benchmark in mountain biking. Its great attractions are to offer a mountain bike competition that runs 97% on dirt tracks, crossing unparalleled natural landscapes such as the volcanoes of Las Calderas, the jable areas of Lajares, the cliffs of Tindaya, the interior landscapes of El Roque , or the coast of El Cotillo and Majanicho ..., and a firm commitment to the environment and respect for the territory.

Gossiping

12 and October 13, 2019

A different and unique festival, that changes the scenarios by the direct interaction between the public and the artists, who offer their shows in the streets of El Cotillo. Cotilleando presents a multidisciplinary program of great richness, with music and theater, dance and acrobatics, circus arts and clown ... All this, with an incomparable setting of El Muellito de El Cotillo as the main stage.

Ruta de la Tapa (Second Edition of the Route of the Tapas of Fuerteventura)

April 4-13, 2019

This is a very important event to boost local economies and provide an additional attraction to the island's tourist offer, making the municipal cuisine an added attraction for visitors to La Oliva. The La Tapa Route has returned to La Oliva, from April 4 to 13, 2019, and celebrates its second edition at the island level.

Reforestación en el Pico de la Zarza
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 21-01-2019, 07:42 PM - Forum: Environmental - Replies (4)

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura performs reforestation work in Pico de la Zarza to combat the effects of desertification

The reforestation project has included the planting of 200 endemic species in the area, including other actions

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura has carried out reforestation tasks in the Pico de la Zarza, in the municipality of Pájara, with the aim of curbing the effects of desertification in this area. Specifically, repair work has been carried out on perimeter fences, conditioning of the gates of these fences and the planting of some two hundred endemic species of the environment, among other actions.

With the aim of reducing the impact of desertification, the Cabildo has been developing a series of reforestation projects in different parts of the island. According to the president of the Island Corporation, "these actions always require this type of maintenance work, without which we could not recover the own habitats of these zones and soften the processes of erosion ".

For its part, the Minister of Environment, Natalia Évora, said that "Fuerteventura is one of the islands of the Archipelago most punished by desertification, largely due to the loss of vegetation, so that reforestation is essential to try decrease this phenomenon of soil loss, with projects that have been developed over the years. "

The species were obtained thanks to the study on the floristic composition of the soil seed bank of the Jandía massif, carried out by Rubén Hernández Cerdeña, a scientific work funded by the Cabildo through the research grants granted each year.

For the planting of these specimens, the Island Corporation has also had the cooperation of the program of actions of recovery and conservation of the natural environment in the Canary Islands carried out by the Ministry of Sustainability of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fundación Bancaria La Caixa and Fundación CajaCanarias through a collaboration agreement.

El Luchador - Valles De Ortega
Posted by: TrickyFox - 17-01-2019, 10:21 AM - Forum: Bars & Restaurants - Replies (3)

OK, been here a few times, first time being the Ruta de la Tapas last June.
Have only ever had Tapas (starters on the menu) so far. Not the cheapest but quality is good and the portions are very generous.
Went yesterday with friends. Had seven starters (doubling up on the papas arrugadas was a mistake as huge portions) and bread/alioli, bottle of red wine, water, 2 whiskies, 3 coffees, for just over €60.
Never eaten in the main restaurant, always the covered terrace area.

Address: Calle Gairia, 16, 35638 Valles de Ortega

Open: 12-11pm Tuesday to Thursday, 12-12 Friday and Saturday, 12-5pm Sunday. Closed Monday.

  Traffic between Caleta and Mattoral?
Posted by: Ducks - 11-01-2019, 08:43 PM - Forum: Cars, cabs & roads - Replies (7)

Is it my imagination, or has traffic between Caleta and Mattoral gone completely bonkers?

Walked out to China Town yesterday from Caleta at about 4pm, and when coming back at 5.30, the road was chocker block from the Atlantico side of the Bus Station all the way to Mattoral. I feel like this is a relatively new thing— last spring/summer I was up and down to Ikea two or three times as a week as we were trying to get the house done, and I never remember seeing anything like that. It's the worst I have seen it, but since we came back in November, it seems quite bad most evenings.

Has traffic gotten worse lately? Is it always like this at this time of year? Was there just an accident yesterday and I couldn't see it? I'd appreciate anyone's insights on this matter!

  La Falua - La Lajita
Posted by: TrickyFox - 11-01-2019, 01:30 PM - Forum: Bars & Restaurants - No Replies

Actually went to the Tapas bar near here first but the kitchen was closed until 4pm and we couldn't wait until then. La Falua is an upmarket restaurant with a few outside table but these were all full so we had to resort to eating inside. We had seen previously that Woody Harrelson had eaten here when he was filming SOLO locally. Lovely restaurant and attentive staff, as I said earlier, more upmarket.
