Hello to all,

Has anyone been to Fado Rock in Corralejo and noticed various large old ship parts including a very large projector.

Any idea where or what ship they are from?

  Geraniums - failing to thrive?
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 14-12-2018, 01:09 AM - Forum: Environmental - Replies (9)

If your geraniums aren't doing as well as usual check the growing tips to see if they have been attacked by a caterpillar known as 'pino procesional'. It is a bristly little thing varying in colour from pale cream to a vibrant green. The largest one I have seen is about 1.5cm long. The little sods burrow into the growing tip and take up residence inside, quickly devouring the inside of the stem. Often the first sign of infestation is the stem turning black. The 'green' solution is to cut off each affected growing tip beneath the black area making sure you cut back to clean green solid stems. Other possible solutions include Tromin Oil (not cheap, about 40€, but bottle lasts for years), or Ralbi 10 which is nasty stuff but pretty effective (wear mask and cover all exposed skin). After the caterpillar has eaten it's fill of the stem it comes out and pupates under a leaf so you may find them there but the damage has already been done.

Kitchen supplies - professional - disHare
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 13-12-2018, 12:44 AM - Forum: Shops & Supermarkets - No Replies

disHare shop in Puerto del Rosario is the main go-to for new restaurants and cafes looking to get everything they need to set up their kitchens. Need a 50L saucepan or a 1m paella pan - plenty here! 'Articulos para Hosteleria'
They have a good selection of everything you think you need and a lot you never knew you needed albeit some of it is pretty basic/plain. Kitchen implements, professional knives, chopping boards to die for (but too heavy for me to lift!), crockery, cutlery, glassware, cleaning supplies in bulk, hundreds of pots/pans/baking dishes, takeaway containers, cake boards, icing bags, giant rolls of cling film, aprons, hats, teacloths, loo rolls. At the opposite end of the shop through a strange middle bit are tables, chairs, stainless steel work benches, meat slicers, buckets, storage boxes etc.
They also carry a large range of washers and other fiddly little bits and pieces, presumably for repairing kitchen machines.
Easy to spend half an hour browsing through everything!

Finding it is not quite so easy as it is in the middle of the one-way system in the El Charco area of Puerto in Calle Viriato. Seen from Calle la Pesca:

I'm thinking of visiting in March/April.  Now that Gran Hotel Natura has closed, where's the best alternative for a naturist stay?

  Be careful where you walk
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 06-12-2018, 12:40 AM - Forum: Environmental - Replies (4)

If you are out and about in areas that you are not familiar with please be very careful as there are a number of pitfalls, literally, scattered around our countryside. Some are water collection areas, or wells and they are not always fenced in. A puppy out for its first walk after injections recently fell in one of the water pits shown below, luckily it had a harness on and the owner was able to catch hold and lift it out.  (Its also got me thinking about mossies!)

These 2 near me are fairly visible structures but its not until you get right up to them that you realise there is water in them, and its' quite deep. A lot of the wells are just literally a hole in the ground with no cover at all. Can you imagine what hard work it was to create these in the old days before JCBs?
