Coronavirus in Fuerteventura - Discussion
Captain, your facebook post suggests much of the recent increase is due to family gatherings/parties, seems a simple solution surely? If the local Govt are serious about saving tourism then do something. i remember a post a while back about a gentleman visiting his family from Mexico and it being linked to a number of cases even spreading to other islands. A ban on home gatherings from multiple households with heavy fines for non-compliance would have little impact on the economy.

You're right Jason. If everyone kept themselves to themselves it would have prevented all this. A few family gatherings might be responsible for the collapse of tourism again. It's very selfish of those who didn't abide by the rules.

At the beginning I just want to say hello to everyone here as I am new here.

The reason I registered is that I am planning three weeks tour in November this year and visit Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. While searching for information about COVID situation in the Canarias i found the one about mandatory masks almost everywhere including outdoors.

I've seen Sam post and this exclusion:
"d) In spaces of nature or outdoors outside population centres, the obligation to wear a mask is excluded as long as the influx of people allows maintaining an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 meters." so I think at the beach when there is noone around 2-3 meters, or hiking outside cities and towns it will be ok not to wear mask.

I understand that mask is mandatory in every closed space, market, shop, restaurant etc. and it.s ok for me.

However I was hoping You can do tell me if I really have to wear mask while walking around streets of cities and towns in the islands because my friend was in Tenerife at the end of August and she told me that if there is no close gathering of people than masks are no mandatory and she was walking freely around Santa Cruz de Tenerife without mask and the only one case she was warned by trhe civil guard was when she wanted to smoke outside in public space while walking.

I know that situation till November may change but I would really appreciate if You could tell me how this situation with masks lin the islands looks like in reality, because I would like to visit Canarias vaery much but vision of wearing mask outdoors is very discouraging.

An interesting article this evening saying that 57 cases could be linked to a bar in Puerto del Rosario - https://www.ondafuerteventura.es/el-brot...WjkC8j4er8

Welcome!
You also have to wear a mask on the beach except when sat down at a distance from others or when in the sea, so definitely when you are walking on a beach. Currently the regs are even stricter in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote as their infection rates are higher. Come November who knows what the situation will be!
The fines for non compliance are heavy but more important is minimising risk to yourself and others. Enjoy your holiday but please look for how you can comply with the rules rather than how to avoid them.

To walk on the streets, currently everyone really has to wear a mask. If you're out in the sticks hiking with no one around, you don't have to have one on but always have a mask in a pocked in case you'll meet someone else.

Here's a photo taken last month in Santa Cruz. I would be really careful not to wear a mask in a capital of any island.

Not sure about all your plans but if you'll manage to be in Fuerteventura around the second weekend in November, try to visit the Kite Festival - hope it'll go on as it's one of a few activities where self distancing isn't an issue at all. Some photos taken a couple years ago: Kite-Festival-2018.

Thank's Sam for the information, I hope the situation in November will be better and masks will not be mandatory outdoors. As for the Kite Festival it looks like it will be exactly when I was planning to be in Fuerteventura so thank You for the tip, if my plans will come true i will definitelly visit this festival :-)

Thank's TamaraEnLaPlaya for Your information, I don't want to avoid any rules, if the situation with masks will still be the same in November I will have to change my plans and choose another direction for holiday or stay home. I hope masks will not be mandatory outdoors till then because I have been to Fuerteventura in 2013 an absolutely loved this island and would like to be there again :-)
