Radio Sintonia:
The largest satellite manufacturer in Europe will be implemented in Fuerteventura.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has transferred its impulse of innovative solutions that allow diversifying the economy of the island by the hand of the Technological Park of Fuerteventura. Some actions that, according to the institution, will be fundamental to generate new opportunities from which the society of the island and the Canary Islands will benefit.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, highlighted "the importance of continuing to bet on projects that allow Fuerteventura to become a technological enclave of reference worldwide".
These advances are not limited to the continuity of the works to improve the infrastructures of the Technology Park but also at the business level, with the growing interest of different projects for its implementation in the majoreras facilities.
In this line, the board of directors of the Technology Park, held last Tuesday, approved the request of the multinational Thales Alenia Space España SA to develop its projects in the Park.
These activities are part of the Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030 project, whose planning began in 2017, and which aims to turn Fuerteventura into a key point in innovation and experimentation of aerospace technologies at an international level.
The approval will allow the implementation of the largest satellite manufacturer in Europe on the island of Fuerteventura, where they will develop their activity around the Canarian Stratoport for HAPS and UAS. This project of insular interest is developed on the grounds of the Technology Park, whose work continues and on which the different procedures that will allow its achievement are being completed.
Likewise, the council approved the tender of the strategic communication and dissemination plan where the actions that will be carried out in the Technology Park are collected. These will allow the majorera society, both at the educational and business level, to know the activities that take place in its facilities, as well as the benefits that these will mean for the island.
On the other hand, the board of directors discussed the readjustment of the direct subsidy for the execution of the Biodiversity project of the Complementary Plans of R + D + i within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan corresponding to the Next Generation Funds of the European Union. A plan whose implementation is progressing at a good pace.

Radio Sintonia:
Playa del Matorral, a jewel of scientific interest in danger.
The beach of the scrub is known for its scenic beauty, but in addition to this it has a scientific interest for its climatic conditions and the physical environment.
An ecosystem of scientific interest
The geographical location of the Site of Scientific Interest of Playa del Matorral, on the southern slope of the Jandía Peninsula, means that it has a hot desert climate, with dry summers and very low average annual rainfall. Being a coastal environment, the space is subject to a strong saline influence, a fact that determines the uniqueness of the plant communities that have a place in it and those of its associated fauna.
Inside the protected area, natural ponds are formed sporadically as a result of the penetration of seawater, which floods a good part of the sandy areas of the area and its plant communities. The existing vegetation turns out to be constituted by halophilic communities, represented by species subject to the climatic conditions of the place. There are excellent populations of mato (Sarcocornnia fruticosa), brusquilla (Suaeda vera) and uvilla de mar (Zygophyllum fontanesii), among other species.
The ecosystem of the salt marsh is associated with an interesting avifauna with several species of migratory seabirds and waders that call at the islands of the archipelago. Species such as the common sandpiper (Calidris alpina) or the tridactyl sandpiper (Calidris alba), are some examples of the birds that are usually seen in the protected area. In addition, other species of semi-desert environments have also been described, such as the emblematic hubara (Chlamidotis undulata fuerteventurae), an endemic subspecies that has been adopted, along with the Jandía cardon, as an emblematic symbol of the island.
The avifauna of the salt marsh in danger
At present, the observation of this avifauna in the Site of Scientific Interest of Playa del Matorral seems to have declined as a result of the frequent presence of tourists who use this area as a bathing area. In fact, the space occupies a coastal strip that is in front of a complex of hotels and apartments, belonging to the important tourist center of Morro Jable, which has meant a certain degree of deterioration for this space.
In addition, the Site of Scientific Interest of Playa del Matorral has been described as the only place in the archipelago where the leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) lays its laying (López-Jurado, et al., 1997), a fact that attributes to this enclave a high added value that should be the object of attention for further studies, since at present it is not known if this species continues to use this area for such purposes.
A threatened space
On the other hand, the enclave that occupies the Site of Scientific Interest of Playa del Matorral, although it does not have a population inside, is subject to strong anthropic pressure. Its proximity to important tourist establishments, some of them invading the limits of the space itself, the intense influx of visitors who use the space as an access road to the beach, the opening of tracks and trails, usually traveled by different vehicles, in addition to the uncontrolled and occasional dumping of debris, are some of the actions that have not favored the conservation of this enclave.
Other episodes that in the past are known to have had significant impacts are the discharge of contaminated water into the Vinámar ravine and the occasional overflow of the facilities of the old Saladar treatment plant when its capacities are exceeded.

Hi all,
I'm staying at the Occidental jandia mar Hotel later this year and noticed the balconies don't appear that private.
I wanted to be nude on my balcony but don't know if this will now be possible if can be seen by neighbours etc.
Has anyone stayed here and could let me know if being nude on the balcony will upset other people as I understand this is more a Germany hotel than English who have a better relationship with nudity than the British.

The archaeological legacy of Majorero returns home with a well-deserved tribute to Nacho Hernández.
The Archaeological Museum presents the exhibition 'Back home. The legacy of the Majo' people
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Archaeological Museum of Betancuria, inaugurates the exhibition 'Back home. The legacy of the Majo' people on June 15. It pays tribute to Nacho Hernández, cultural heritage technician of the insular Administration, and a leading figure in the promotion of culture on the island since 1984.
With his dedication and experience as a graduate in Geography and History and Archaeology, Hernández has dedicated his professional career to publicize the majorera culture, focusing on the quality and dissemination of its values.
The temporary exhibition aims to bring together the materials that, at some point, left the island and ended up in different museum spaces over the years.
Many of them, which are exhibited for the first time, come from the Canarian Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife and the Archaeological Museum of Fuerteventura. In addition, materials from the recently donated Roldán Verdejo Collection are included. Under the loan formula, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura will be responsible for the conservation and protection of these materials for one year, and will proceed to their return once the exhibition is closed.
The Archaeological Museum will allow visitors to enjoy the diversity of forms and the beauty of ceramics, plates, hand mills and the lithic industry. Likewise, aspects of the technology and subsistence of the majos will be shown, revealing their strategies for raising resources. These valuable cultural assets, which left the island since the late nineteenth century, can be contemplated and known thanks to the joint effort of various institutions such as the Canarian Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development and the University of La Laguna.
Exhibition units
The exhibition is composed of several explanatory units that invite reflection on the scattered archaeological heritage and its current situation.
Entry Unit: The motives behind the dispersion of archaeological heritage and the reality it faces today will be explored.
Unit II: Tribute will be paid to Nacho Hernández, cultural heritage technician of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, highlighting his invaluable work in the preservation of our cultural heritage.
Unit III: Do we know where they are?
You will get to know the Museums that guard the archaeological materials of the majos, such as the Canarian Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Quay Braily Museum in Paris, the Museum of Man in Paris, the Archaeological Museum of Tenerife and the Benahoarita Museum in La Palma.
Unit IV: Travel times.
There will be a historical tour from the late nineteenth century to the present, analyzing the departure of materials from Fuerteventura and the reasons that motivated it.
Unit V: Heritage rescuers
Tribute will be paid to the European and Canarian researchers who preserved different pieces of the material culture of the majos. It will deepen its relationship with Fuerteventura and the reasons that motivated the departure of these materials from the island.
Unit VI: What's Next
The archaeological materials of other museums that are part of the exhibition will be detailed, covering ceramic vessels, lithic tools, remains of fauna, malacology and anthropological remains.
Unit VII: A perennial problem
It will explain how current collecting and malpractice threaten our heritage, resulting in the loss of valuable information about the culture of the Majo people.
Unit VIII: Reference will be made to the new archaeological museum of Fuerteventura, equipped with the infrastructure and cultural equipment necessary for the custody and protection of the archaeological materials of the culture of the Majo people. Serendipitous finds and measures to protect our heritage will also be addressed.

Radio Sintonia:
The Canarian palm tree, a symbol of our land.
It is well known the enormous interest that the Canarianpalm tree (Phoenix canariensis) has in our islands, both for being one of the most representative elements of biodiversity and the Canarian landscape, and for what it means for the economy of some productive sectors. These and other relevant characteristics, such as its great beauty and cultural value for Canarian society, have been the fundamental reasons, even, to be considered as the plant symbol of our Autonomous Community, according to the sole article, paragraph 1, of Law 7/1991, of April 30, on symbols of nature for the Canary Islands.
A species of our land
In almost the entire archipelago we can enjoy palm groves, located mainly on the banks of the ravine beds, in their middle or final sections. The Canarian palm tree is also part of the thermophilic forests in the company of other species, such as dragon trees, wild olive trees, junipers, mastics, seedlings, taginastes, peralillos and many other species of our varied biodiversity. These thermophilic forests occupy the strip between the cardonal-tabaibal and the Monteverde on the northern slope of the islands, and between the aforementioned cardonal-tabaibal and the pine forests of the southern or leeward slope.
The Canarian species belongs to the Arecaceae family and can reach more than twenty meters, with a robust and cylindrical trunk formed by stacking the petiole of its leaves after its fall, either naturally or by pruning, being, depending on the case, different the appearance of the same. It is a dioecious species, that is, there are specimens with male flowers and specimens with female flowers separately. The flowers are arranged in racemes that, in the case of female individuals, after pollination, evolve into infrutescences where each fruit is called tamara or date.
A species in danger
Another characteristic of this species is that, generally, it does not present "children", that is, the appearance of lateral branches of the trunk.
However, the Canarian palm tree has a great genetic affinity with other foreign palm species, mainly with palm trees of the genus Phoenix. And this is where the problem arises derived from the growing proliferation of specimens of foreign palm trees that constitute a threat to the genetic identity of the Canarian species, since the presence of multiple hybrid specimens has been molecularly verified, as a result of the great facility to hybridize that they present.
Protecting the Canarian palm tree
For all these reasons, it is necessary to adopt measures to avoid the excessive proliferation of palm trees other than the Canary Islands.
From the legal point of view, Law 4/1989, of March 27, on the Conservation of Natural Spaces and Wild Flora and Fauna, provides in its article 26.1 that the Public Administrations will adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the conservation of species of flora and fauna, with special attention to native species. Likewise, article 27, paragraph b), of the aforementioned legal text provides that the action of the Public Administrations will be based mainly on avoiding the introduction and proliferation of species, subspecies or geographical races other than the autochthonous ones, to the extent that they can compete with them, alter their genetic purity or ecological balances.

Awareness and dissemination on World Environment, Oceans and Sea Turtle Day.
The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability, has scheduled a series of workshops on dissemination and environmental awareness on the occasion of the World Day of the Environment, Oceans and Sea Turtles, which are held on June 5, 8 and 16, respectively.
Protecting our environment
The main objective of these activities is to promote the protection of our natural environment and encourage sustainable actions that allow a positive coexistence with nature, where citizens can become aware of the importance of preserving the environment.
The activities will be carried out during the month of June, following the established program. They are aimed mainly at schoolchildren from different educational centers, with the purpose of educating future generations about the importance of caring for and conserving our natural environment.
Through these actions, we seek to awaken interest and sensitivity towards the conservation of our oceans, the protection of sea turtles and the adoption of sustainable practices in our community. Therefore, all citizens are invited to join this initiative and actively contribute to the protection and preservation of our environment.
The Cabildo appreciates the participation and support of all those involved in these activities, since only through collective commitment can we guarantee a sustainable future that respects nature.
Activity 'Coastline in sight'
On the other hand, the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura will also develop the activity 'Litoral a la Vista' on the occasion of the celebration of World Environment Day and Oceans Day. This initiative is part of the environmental education program 'Know to Protect' and is aimed at adults over 18 years of age.
The objective of this activity is to promote knowledge about the value of the coastline and the impacts it suffers, in order to raise awareness among participants about the use we make of it and promote actions to prevent its deterioration.
The activity will take place on June 10, 2023, on the beach of Playa Blanca, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. approximately. It will be open to people over 18 years of age who register in advance, with a maximum limit of 30 participants.
The development of the activity will be divided into three fundamental parts: The coast; Microplastics workshop; Marine litter workshop.

Radio Sintonia:
Betancuria Rural Park, an example of coexistence between agriculture and natural values.
The island of Fuerteventura has some of the most spectacular landscapes in the Canary Islands, including the Betancuria Rural Park, classified as a protected area.
Natural treasure of Fuerteventura
The Betancuria Rural Park is located on the west coast of the island of Fuerteventura, covering an area of 16,210.82 hectares. Within its territorial scope is also located the Natural Monument of Ajuí (31.02 ha.), which houses a deposit of ancient materials of great scientific value, with oceanic sediments and fossils of disappeared marine animals declared an Area of Ecological Sensitivity (Law 11/1990, on the Prevention of Ecological Impact).
Betancuria, Rural Park
In this space, the unique geological nature of the Betancuria Massif and traditional uses converge that make man a prominent component of the environment. Here is one of the most spectacular outcrops of the basal complex in the Canary Islands, which provides not only a high scientific interest, but also a landscape of a unique chromaticism and structure, to which we must add the existence of traditional uses and elements that present a great cultural value as well as ecological. These are its most relevant values and have been the main foundation for its protection under the figure of Rural Park.
The spirit of the figure of Rural Park is precisely the compatibility of two aspects that do not always coexist harmoniously: a traditional agricultural activity and natural values that here are synergistically integrated creating an environment of great landscape and ecocultural value, worthy of being preserved. The Rural Park of Betancuria thus has the opportunity to become an excellent example of active conservation, where the preservation of the resources of the territory goes through a direct intervention of man that, in this case, translates into the maintenance of traditional cultural practices of great importance for the conservation of the scarcest and most precious resources of this Island: water and soil.
A space with threatened species
It should also be noted the presence of threatened plants and animals, as well as plant formations of great natural value, many of them considered habitats of Community interest. Due to its general importance for birds, this area has also been declared a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA).
The same climatic, edaphic, hydrological and biological conditions that make the Betancuria Massif a physiographic and geological unit perfectly differentiated from the rest of the island, have conditioned the settlement in its surroundings of most of the majorera population until quite recent times, and within the Park is the first nucleus and capital of Fuerteventura: the town of Santa María de Betancuria, declared an artistic ensemble in 1979.

Radio Sintonia:
RIC approved for the rehabilitation of the Corralejo Beach hotel in Fuerteventura.
The Governing Council, at the proposal of the Ministry of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs, declared at its meeting on Thursday the suitability of the issuance of various financial instruments to materialize funds from the Reserve for Investments in the Canary Islands (RIC) by the companies Viola Teidea and Cardumen Capital in the rehabilitation of two hotels in Fuerteventura and Mogán, for just over a million euros.
The first of the companies is the one that has submitted the application and the one that has promoted the constitution of the second, which acts as a financial institution.
The projects to be executed consist of the rehabilitation of the Corralejo Beach hotel, in Fuerteventura, for 1.27 million euros, and the Puerto de Mogán hotel, for 800,000 euros.
With this project, the Government has approved during the legislature 17 of the 19 files of indirect materialization of the RIC, amounting to 256 million euros.
It is reported that the Economic Law of the REF provides that the endowments of the RIC can be materialized in the subscription of any financial instrument issued by financial institutions provided that the funds raised are destined to the financing in the Canary Islands of private projects, whose investments are suitable in accordance with what is regulated in the Law itself, being necessary that the emissions are supervised by the Government of the Canary Islands and have a binding report from the State Agency of the Tax Administration.
According to what was transferred by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Economic Law of the REF (Law 19/1994, of July 6, amending the Economic and Fiscal Regime of the Canary Islands) provides that the endowments of the RIC can be materialized in the subscription of any financial instrument issued by financial institutions, provided that the funds raised are destined to the financing in the Canary Islands of private projects, whose investments are eligible in accordance with the provisions of article 27.4.D.3º of the Law, being necessary that the issues are supervised by the Government of the Canary Islands and have a binding report from the State Agency of the Tax Administration (AEAT).
The Ministry of Finance of the Government of the Canary Islands declares the suitability of the financial instrument to materialize the RIC, while the effective verification of the correctness of said materialization, mainly in relation to the investment to be financed, corresponds to the AEAT.

More than 10,000 people celebrate the day of the Canary Islands in the traditional Taifa Dance.
The majoreros came with their food and traditional clothes to the popular event in the capital of the island.
Among the Events that the island of Fuerteventura celebrates every year in relation to the day of the Canary Islands, the traditional Taifa Dance stands out above all, where citizens from all over the island come between isas and olías to celebrate canareidad.
Between cheese, pejines, chickpeas, and some gofio pella than another, the tables exhibited the best of our gastronomy, in addition to being accompanied by good wines to the sound of tempera and guitar.
The Canarians celebrate this May 30 the day of the autonomous community since onthis date the first session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands was held, a body created in the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands of 1982.
The first parliamentary session took place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 30 May 1983 and was chaired by Pedro Guerra Cabrera, then deputy for the Canarian socialist parliamentary group (PSC-PSOE). That day Pedro Guerra Cabrera in his first speech advocated "building a region of islands, from now and forever."
