  Illegal fishing activities
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 21-03-2024, 09:36 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (1)

Radio Sintonia:

Fisheries Inspectorate draws up five reports for the illegal capture of more than 48 kilos of fish and seafood in Fuerteventura.

The infractions correspond to actions of shellfishing of limpets during the closed season in El Cotillo, fish catches that exceed the limit allowed in marinas, and the practice of underwater fishing in prohibited areas.

Agents of the Fisheries Inspection Service of the Government of the Canary Islands have drawn up five reports for the illegal capture of 43.85 kilos of fish and 4.46 kilos of limpets in Fuerteventura, and for the practice of underwater fishing in an unauthorized area. Two of these infractions correspond to cases of shellfishing of limpets during the closed season (a period in which capture is prohibited to protect marine resources) in El Cotillo. Two others relate to fish catches that exceed the permitted limit, detected as part of a campaign of surveillance, control and inspection in fishing matters in marinas on the island outside normal business hours, and the last one refers to the location of an underwater fisherman in a prohibited area near Tarajalejo (Tuineje).

These actions constitute serious infringements according to article 106.1.b) of Law 3/2001 on State Maritime Fishing, and can result in fines ranging from 301 to 60,000 euros. The general director of the Area, Armiche Ramos, recalled the importance of respecting fishing regulations to guarantee the sustainability of marine resources.

  Invitation Letter Help :)
Posted by: xxNWSTRINGxx - 21-03-2024, 04:30 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (8)

Afternoon,

I’m hoping someone on here may have some up to date info / experience in relation to ‘Letter of invitation’ requirements and if they are being enforced (I can’t see anything since around 2021 when searching).

I was planning on coming to the Island in August to stay for a maximum of 2 weeks at a family’s address. My family aren’t currently living on the island so their address is empty. As a result they aren’t able to physically attend a Police Station to apply for a letter of invitation that I have been made aware may be a requirement and aren’t planning to come to the Island before I would.

On entering at the airport has anyone had experience of being asked to show proof of where you will be staying (booking confirmations / letters of invitation etc). Obviously if I kept plans as they are I wouldn’t have anything to be able to show where I am staying (family don’t rent out the property or anything when they are not there, just occasionally I or other family stay for a holiday but not for a few years). The only documentation I would have would be my flight details (for the return journey).

I’d rather not have to book a hotel or somewhere else to stay however also don’t want to arrive and have issues at the airport.

If anyone has any recent experience it would be appreciated.

Thanks Smile

The Canary Islands lead the rate of marriage dissolutions
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 15-03-2024, 09:31 PM - Forum: General Discussions - No Replies

Radio Sintonia:

The Canary Islands lead the rate of marriage dissolutions for the fifth consecutive year.

As of 31 December 2023, the judicial bodies of the autonomous community of the Canary Islands recorded the highest rate in the country of applications for dissolution of marriage per 100,000 inhabitants, as has been the case uninterruptedly since December 2019. This is confirmed by data collected by the statistics service of the General Council of the Judiciary.

According to the report released today, between January and December 2023, the civil courts of the Archipelago computed a total of 5,473 requests for separations, divorces or marriage annulments, 1.4% more than in 2022 (5,398).

This represents a rate of 247.3 marriage breakdowns per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest in Spain in the reference period.

The second was in the Balearic Islands (219.9), and the third was in Murcia (204.3). The national average was 192.1 marital breakdowns per 100,000 inhabitants, i.e. 55.2 points below the Canary Islands average.

On the other hand, the lowest rates were in the Basque Country, with 157.1; Castilla y León, with 158.2; and Madrid, with 160.9.

By province, the number of marital breakdowns in Las Palmas (2,754) was higher than in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (2,719).

Possible Guardia Civil barracks in Caleta de Fuste
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 14-03-2024, 08:11 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (1)

Noticias:

The Guardia Civil is studying a permanent position in Antigua.

Caleta de Fuste is proposed as a preferred location for the location of a barracks or permanent post of the Civil Guard

The mayor, Matías Peña García, received this Thursday morning at the City Hall of Antigua the General Chief of the Canary Islands, Juan Hernández Mosquera and the Colonel Chief of the Command in Las Palmas, Javier Peña de Aro.

The representatives of the Civil Guard respond with this meeting to the proposal of the mayor of Antigua more than a year ago, to install a fixed post or operations headquarters of this body of the Security Forces in the Municipality, especially in Caleta de Fuste.

General Mosquera thanked the willingness of the City Council of Antigua at all times to facilitate the service of the agents in the Municipality, and has transferred to the mayor, that among the measures to improve the infrastructure and logistics of the Corps, the possibility of establishing a fixed post or permanent barracks in the town of Caleta de Fuste is being evaluated.

At their disposal and in whatever they need, said the main municipal councilor, so that their permanent presence in the main tourist town of the Municipality, with the largest number of resident and floating population throughout the year, is a reality.

The mayor, Matías Peña, has summoned the commanders of the Civil Guard to a more detailed meeting and with the area technicians to promote this project in the Municipality and in the shortest possible time.

Undoubtedly, if confirmed, adds the municipal councilor, this is magnificent news and the response we have been waiting for since we proposed it, both for what it means in terms of security and attention to any neighbour, as well as for the support that its proximity also means, objectively and subjectively, for shops, hotel complexes, restaurant areas or the industrial area itself.

The former Tefía Penitentiary Colony is proposed as a Place of LGTBIQ+ Democratic Mem
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 13-03-2024, 07:42 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (1)

Radio Sintonia:

The former Tefía Penitentiary Colony is proposed as a Place of LGTBIQ+ Democratic Memory.

Paloma Hernández urges the Government to declare the former prison of Tefía a Place of Democratic Memory
The senator for Fuerteventura, Paloma Hernández, has registered a motion in the Senate as a territorial chamber to ask the Government to declare the former Penitentiary Colony of Tefía, on the island of Fuerteventura, as a Place of Democratic Memory LGTBIQ+.

The proposal, which will be defended in the Constitutional Commission of the Senate, proposes to recognize, by all State institutions, the Events that took place in the former prison of Tefía, as well as to continue promoting policies of reparation of democratic memory and the recognition of its victims in any territory of our country.

In this sense, Hernández states that the LGTBIQ+ collective was one of those that suffered the most from the consequences of Francoism, under the Law of Vagrants and Criminals, which was reformed in 1954 to include these people. "It is essential to promote the recognition of the victims who suffered reprisals and to value democratic principles and historical memory, dignifying the memory of the victims," he said.

The Canarian senator highlights the efforts of the Majorero collective ALTIHAY, which "has been fighting for years so that history is not forgotten and the Events that took place in Tefía are recognized". That is why it urges the Government to collaborate with regional and island administrations and institutions to enable a space for the recognition of the rights of LGTBIQ+ people.

"This collaboration is essential to ensure the preservation of historical memory and the fundamental values of equality and respect in our society. It cannot be forgotten that the Law of Democratic Memory contemplates this group as victims and we are obliged to disseminate and publicize their memory," he adds.

Hernández explains that in 2022 the Law of Democratic Memory was approved, accommodating the recognition of many places, spaces and people who suffered the reprisals of the dictatorship and Francoist ideology in which the Tefía penitentiary center was not recognized.

"From the Socialist Parliamentary Group we pursue the idea of uniting past, present and future so that this project becomes a reality, thus honoring the memory of those who suffered unjustly and guaranteeing that these human rights abuses are never repeated," he concludes.

Three arrested for resistance and disobedience in an eviction in Corralejo
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 09-03-2024, 07:27 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (1)

Noticias:

Three arrested for resistance and disobedience in an eviction in Corralejo.

The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura, with the collaboration of the Local Police of La Oliva, has proceeded to the arrest of three people during the Police assistance provided to the judicial entourage that was carrying out an eviction, for a crime of resistance and disobedience to the agents of the authority, by barricading themselves in the house not wanting to leave it and spraying a person with gasoline and throwing the bottle where the flammable liquid was to the outside, affecting one of the agents of the Civil Guard, in the town of Corralejo.

Policing

On March 5 at around 12:00 in the morning, several members of the Corralejo Main Post were there, supported by a patrol of the Local Police of La Oliva, assisting the members of the judicial entourage, in the execution of an eviction by court order of one. The inhabitants had barricaded themselves inside, refusing to leave, maintaining an exalted and belligerent attitude against the judicial and Police agents.

After several attempts with the intention of convincing the woman to give up her attitude and allow access to the Police components, she remained firm in her will to remain in the building, which is why the judicial agents, at around 1:00 p.m., ordered the opening of the entrance door.

The opening was carried out carefully from the main door, allowing herself to be seen with a jug of what appears to be flammable liquid, spraying herself and throwing it outwards, affecting one of the Civil Guard agents who were closest, threatening to set herself on fire.

Faced with this situation of danger to the physical integrity of the people, the Police components managed to enter the house, beginning a struggle with the people who were inside, to prevent them from harming themselves.

Once the lives of the three residents of the house and all the agents who were in the place have been safeguarded, the three people are transferred to Police stations for the investigation of proceedings and subsequent referral to the Guard Court.
