Bicycles on autovia are they legal?
Posted by: beachlife - 08-10-2019, 08:48 PM - Forum: Cars, cabs & roads - Replies (3)

The auto via from the lajares/Villaverde roundabout to Caldereta has a sign as you enter the autovia informing you that bicycles & certain other classes of vehicles can not use it, However the auto via from the same roundabout to Correlajo has signs saying it is an autovia but has no sign that I am aware of saying that bicycles are restricted from using it. I have read online that on some autovias bicycles are allowed on the hard shoulder. So can bikes legally use the autovia on the correlajo stretch of road?

I have seen people cycling on this stretch so I am assuming that they either know they legally can do so or are ignoring any restriction. Can anyone actually clarify for me the legal position?

Ok, so if you could spend a BILLION, what would you choose?
Posted by: Archer - 06-10-2019, 03:25 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (5)

How would you spend a billion? (in Fuerteventura)

The tunnel to Lanzarote seems to have hit a nerve with a lot of people. So for fun, if you were the Cabildo and had €1 billion laying around, what would be your five pet projects? It's for fun, so don't get too heavy or political:

1. A robust water supply chain fit for this century
2. Offshore windfarm on west coast. Consolidate all wind generation in ONE place instead of multiple inland eyesores
3. Takeover all unfinished build projects for use by the homeless at affordable rents. Another eyesore gone!
4. Plant up all highways with tree/shrubs and reverse the mass removal/destruction of trees and plants from roundabouts
5. Make the ferry to Lanzarote FREE!! No need for a stupud tunnel.

Photographic exhibition in Corralejo - Our Memory
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 04-10-2019, 11:59 PM - Forum: Things to do on the island - Replies (10)

Tamara: I'm trying to find out if this is open to the public - I'd love to go and have a look!

RTVAC:
The transformation of the landscape and the old way of life of La Oliva are reflected in the exhibition Our Memory, opened yesterday at the Center for the Elderly of Corralejo.

The City Council of La Oliva collaborates with this project promoted by the Fuerteventura-Norte Association, with an artistic work in charge of Pared Libre, and the participation of neighbors, groups and sponsors.

More than 1,000 old photographs of the municipality of La Oliva have been recovered within Our Memory, a project that culminated yesterday with the inauguration of a permanent exhibition installed in the Senior Center of Corralejo.

This exhibition has been promoted by the Association of the Third Age Fuerteventura-Norte, with a documentation work that began three years ago and which the Wall Free collective has developed at an artistic level. With the collaboration of the City Council of La Oliva, among many other entities, the selection of 70 images that make up the installation revolve around two fundamental concepts, the transformation of the landscape and the old way of life of the population of La Oliva

The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, said at the opening ceremony that "this exhibition should help us understand who we are, because we are where we came from. Talk to the people in these photos, our elders, and see how the territory has changed , it should serve us to learn and to improve in the future. " Along with the mayor, were also the Minister of Social Affairs, Víctor Alonso, Soledad Aguiar and Patricio Guerra, by the Association of the Third Age Fuerteventura-Norte.

"The purpose of the project is to recover the memory of our most immediate ancestors. As landscapers, we consider that to conserve fragile landscapes such as those of the Canary Islands we have to look back, because the landscape is a common good. Our elders were farmers, fishermen and ranchers , activities that we would like to recover. Now they are the custodians of this work, "said Esther Azpeitia, who along with Merche Gómez has developed this work from the Free Wall collective.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Rafael Benítez, excused himself for not being able to attend the event, transferring that from the City Council "it is satisfactory to collaborate and transfer the Corralejo Senior Center to the association, for the work they do." With the assembly of the exhibition an important work of rehabilitation and lighting of the center has been developed, so that "it is a pride to see how an artistic and historical memory project also has a social component, making the home of the elderly more welcoming" said Benitez.

The Fuerteventura Norte Association has sincerely thanked all the entities that have sponsored the project, the City Council of La Oliva, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the Coastal Action Group of Fuerteventura, the Cajamar Foundation and Tagoror Bookstore. Also to the neighbors and groups that have yielded their images, such as the Old Town of Corralejo or the Department of Heritage of the City Council, and the associations of the cultural centers of the municipality, Cultural Association Root of the People, Young Cotillo, La Luciernaga, Datsimal Association and the Green Bike.

Exhibition Our Memory

From the Fuerteventura Norte association they explain that the exhibition Our Memory consists of more than 70 photographs, most of them original "that show the relationship of women and men in the municipality with the traditional fishing sector and agriculture, livelihood of the island", and also Significantly shows the transformation of the landscape. It is "a collection of images that aim to contribute to show and preserve the history of this municipality."

The installation exhibits, through public access, a cultural heritage and heritage of the municipality of La Oliva. In addition to the exposed photographs, a collection of some thousand photographs has been made, which will be part of an Association archive.

The artistic work has corresponded to the Free Wall Association, which has been in charge of carrying out the field work, editing and assembly of the exhibition from 2017 until now, visiting the cultural centers of the municipality, as well as the homes of many neighbors They wanted to contribute their photos, and scanning the images in situ.

  Cotilleando 12th & 13th Oct 2019
Posted by: TamaraEnLaPlaya - 19-09-2019, 10:13 PM - Forum: Things to do on the island - No Replies

Artists from Peru, Chile, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Italy or Bulgaria have already confirmed their presence in El Cotillo, with a variety of shows such as bubble sculptures, hair suspension acrobatics, clown theater ...

The Cotilleando multidisciplinary art festival returns to the town of El Cotillo on October 12 and 13, with several confirmed international artists from Peru, Chile, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain and the Canary Islands, and others many who will join the program until its celebration.

Circus, dance, music, theater or crafts are some of the artistic disciplines that we can enjoy that weekend in El Cotillo, in the framework of this festival that celebrates its fourth edition promoted by the Cultural Association TabaibArt and the City Council of La Oliva.

Cotilleando is "a festival at street level, in which the shows and performances take place in a spectacular setting such as the El Cotillo Muellito environment, favoring the connection between artists and the public. It is an intimate and large event , because it surprises by its variety, but also by its quality ", valued the Councilor for Culture, Iballa Pérez.

From the TabaibArt Cultural Association, they explain that Cotilleando is "an event for all ages, which brings together magic and harmony, with a showcase as peculiar as the old town of El Cotillo, where the moonlight, the stars and the sound of the Mar accompany the viewer on a lively and fun tour, "says the festival coordinator, the trapeze specialist and trainer at the stunt school of La Oliva Stefy Faga.

International artists confirmed

Among the artists already confirmed in Cotilleando 2019 it is worth mentioning Marta Camuffi, who will offer a show of hair suspension (acrobatics hanging from the hair), the spectacular bubble sculptures that Yuri Bussi will perform, “The Crazy Bubbler”, next to the violinist Marilina Dobreva , the acrobats Claudia Franco and Cristian Trelles, specialists in wheel cyr, juggling and unicycle, or the show of José Luis Redondo and Jorge Albuerne (theater, clown and circus), who already triumphed in the first edition of Cotilleando and who return to unleash the audience laughs with their new show, Ye Orbayu.

They will also present their experimental circus show Andrea Sperotto and Francesco Caspani, and, on Sunday, the public will be able to participate in the painting workshops, exhibitions, etc.

The final show, already a classic of this festival, this year will come from the hand of renowned artistic director Roberto Magro, and that, without revealing the details of the show, has advanced its title: Sunset Effect.

A program with surprises

The TabaibArt association emphasizes that the greatest value of Gossiping is exactly the surprise factor: being able to walk freely and get carried away by the music, stunts, dancing and live creations that artists will make directly on the spot. "Artists adapt to space, and not vice versa."

The program will be announced coinciding with the dates of the festival and will be distributed in El Cotillo, so that the public can organize their own route once in the town. It will also be available in digital format for download via the Internet, from PC or on the mobile phone.

Dates and schedules

Saturday, October 12

From 19:30 the festival starts in the old square of El Cotillo, continuing through the pedestrian zone of the old town.

Sunday October 13

Activities from 5:00 p.m., and great final show at 6:30 p.m. in the Plaza de El Cotillo.
